IRONFEST VIII (Night 1)
IRONFEST VIII (Night 1)
Tiger Sex
Tiger Sex
TIGER SEX is a four piece rock n’ roll band, born in Las Vegas, that brings the past and future together with their in your face sound. With influences ranging from the birth of rock n’ roll to dirty garage punk, they created their own music that will make your minds melt. Like an angry, dirty tiger that hasn't eaten, they’re Extra Wild!
The Nothing
The Nothing
The Nothing are the riff raff remains of several local Cincinnati bands, who came together when other projects ended to keep on bringing rock and roll to the masses.
Roosevelt
Roosevelt
roosevelt. is an Alternative/Emo band from Cincinnati, OH. They bring a loud exciting show to the stage, as they comb through self reflection, and deep thoughts you don't even tell your friends about. The band has traveled around the Midwest and South, leaving fans all along the way. They have been featured in several radio showcases around their hometown, after releasing their debut album, "If This Is Everything..." in 2015.

Bands ranging from Pink Floyd to the emo explosion in the early 2000s have had an impact on the singer and songwriter of the band, Danny Poland. He began this project as a way to vent frustrations of life the way bands like Brand New and Manchester Orchestra have mastered. Combining the ebb and flow, and the importance of musical dynamics, with real, personal, story like lyrics, he has left an impact on listeners and showgoers alike. When you combine the energy and melody that James Dean Rapier has on bass, and the intricate and dynamic drum styling from Matt Starling, you get a flowing, emotion inducing musical journey.

The band's debut album, "If this is Everything..." investigates emotional extremes at their best and, of course, their worst. The album starts with the band's single, "Feel The Comedown." The song's pop feel is a deception to it's real darkness. Realizing that every beginning starts with an end, Poland wonders "what's next?" As the album progresses, the song "This Is Failing," speaks about the anxiety of trusting with the whole heart, and waiting to see if that gamble could possibly work out. The album closes with the new beginning that was promised at the start. "(Arche) of Pathos," is a reflection from a distance, resolution of an era, and the promise of something new that comes from the past.

After months spent playing in new towns, the band has begun to write a new full length record, and have big plans to visit the east coast, and the rest of the country. They've dedicated their lives to playing music and love the excitement of visiting new places, with new people that relate to them through music and life. Check them out in a town near you soon!
Dead Man String Band
Dead Man String Band
Strait from 6 feet under comes Dead Man String Band! A one man rock sideshow from Cincinnati, OH. This isn't the one man acts of the past you've seen before, instead it is a full on rock show with an arsenal of amps, drums, and a style that's truly unique to the Dead Man giving it the fan made genre of Appalachian/Delta Punk. Since it's creation Dead Man String Band has been wowing and captivating audiences with not only an amazing sonic display but a visual show made to grab the listeners eyes, as well as their ears. With a stage setup that has been referred to as "Looking at a science experiment" Dead Man String Band has created a sound all his own that will surely grab your attention.

Taking DIY to a whole new level is a phrase commonly used to describe DMSB's sound, presentation, theatrics, and energy. From being brought out on stage in a coffin, to simply slumping towards the stage stiffly, throwing the audience off, until the first notes hit and by that time their stuck to their spot on the floor. Brining crowd members on stage and making them play his drums is just another thing that makes this act unique. Crowd participation isn't just encouraged, it's almost forced to an almost comic like degree. The presentation is another captivating aspect. Dawning a mask fabricated from the same folks that brought you GWAR's props, when he walks on stage you know you're in for a crazy night. Finally the music styling isn't something most are accustomed to seeing. The hands are playing in the stylings of Doc Watson but the amps are in the tone of Slayer and then add the fact that he's playing a drum set at his feet. Don't let the low number of members fool you. This is a band as much as any other.

March 21st, 2015 marked the release of Dead Man's debut album "I" which was widely accepted with much anticipation. And that's where we're finding ourselves today. With a new album out and a promising horizon, the Dead Man String Band plans on becoming a force to be reckoned with!

Veronica Grim & The Heavy Hearts
Veronica Grim & The Heavy Hearts
Combining the fables of a gypsy rogue with the galloping melodies of a gang of outlaw punks creates quite the musical combination. The influence of Outlaw Country and good old Rock and Roll can be heard throughout Veronica Grim's catalog of musical samplings. Formerly known as the lead singer of Switchblade Syndicate, Grim has broken away from the standard pyschobilly and cowpunk formula and created a whole new sound that crosses over the borders of several genres. For Grim and her exceptional bandmates, the truth and heart in a song plays louder than an amp, and the hell raised in live performance comes from a true love of being in front of those who can appreciate the power of real, pure music that doesn't require an auto tune.

In addition to headlining local shows in the Cincinnati area with Switchblade Syndicate and Veronica Grim and the Blue Ribbon Boys, Grim has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with such national acts as Nekromantix, The Koffin Kats, The Arkhams, Whiskey Daredevils, Lydia Loveless and many more.

The band originated in Northern Kentucky and has moved to Long Beach, California for new adventures. Ready, willing and able to travel for gigs given enough notice. You can't put a price on fun...
Smoke Healer
Smoke Healer
Smoke Healer was founded in the fall of 2014 by five close friends from the Northern KY/Cincinnati music scene.

From the start, the band wanted to create music that honored the classic heavy music they were influenced by, while maintaining their own unique sonic signature.
Drawing mostly from a deep well of classic rock, hard rock, & heavy metal, Smoke Healer went into overdrive writing their entire full-length record over the course of just ten writing sessions.
The band continued to rehearse and record pre-production demos for the next several months before entering the studio to capture the magic they had created.
With an arsenal of finely crafted songs, Smoke Healer forged through recording, mixing, & mastering at a furious pace in order to keep the newly written material fresh.

During the mixing phase of the recording sessions, the band launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the final steps of production, duplication, packaging, & marketing of their record. Though not having any official music yet released to the public, the band still managed to exceed its funding goal within the campaign's short 30 day run.

After securing the funds to complete their record, the group then proceeded to book a CD release show with local music heavies Moonbow, which features David McElfresh (Hank III, Lethal, Killing Rabies) in their ranks. A longtime friend of the band, David also graciously contributed his violin mastery to three of the ten tracks on the record, adding a unique texture to the songs that is rarely seen in modern heavy music releases.

Smoke Healer is ready to share their music with heavy music fans worldwide. The future looks promising and people are about to be healed!

The band’s debut release is currently available at the following locations: iTunes, CD Baby, Amazon, Spotify, Rhapsody, eMusic, and more locations soon.

Calumet
Calumet
Calumet recalls the sounds of some of it's members previous efforts (Alone at 3AM, 500 Miles to Memphis, The Frankl Project) but looks to the beginnings of american music for its inspiration. The result is catchy and comfortable, familiar like you've met before, but rest assured you haven't.
Arlo McKinley & The Lonesome Sound
Arlo McKinley & The Lonesome Sound
"Already a peer/fan favorite, McKinley and the Lonesome Sound are guaranteed to attract a wealth of new listeners with their official debut album, which will likely inspire plenty of end-of-year love as well." - Brian Baker, CityBeat
Matt Woods
Matt Woods
Matt Woods is an americana, country and southern roots songwriter from Knoxville, Tennessee who spends a hell of a lot of time on the road, playing his songs for anyone who cares to listen. "Some folks call what I do Americana, but I have a hard time putting a label on things like that. A lot of my songs are very much based in classic country music while others are grounded in straight forward and greasy rock’n’roll,” Woods explains. “I write what is ready to come out and try to be as honest as I can about it."

2014 brought the release of Woods’ 2nd full length studio album, With Love From Brushy Mountin, which was met with much critical acclaim. After performing over 400 shows in support of that album, several festival appearances including Gasparilla Festival, Muddy Roots, Moonrunners, Fest 13, Wildwood Music Festival and a recent European tour, Matt is touring the US in preparation for a mid-year 2016 release. Along the way, he has shared the stage with the likes of Chris Knight, Black Oak Arkansas, Bobby Bare, Frank Turner, Roger Alan Wade, Zac Brown, Drivin' n' Cryin', Will Hoge, Roger Clyne (of The Refreshments), CAKE, Robbie Fulks, The White Buffalo, The Black Lillies and others.

Press:

"It’s only a matter of time before singer-songwriter Matt Woods finds wider recognition."
-Performing Songwriter

“Like Jason Isbell, another son of the South who bears a tenacious tone, Woods is in the vanguard of country music’s feisty new generation. And in With Love From Brushy Mountain, he’s helping set the standard.”
-No Depression

“Brushy Mountain is as complete of a country album as you will find, with excellent songwriting
throughout, a great sound that is country at heart, but with sprouts of rock & roll that endow the
project with spice and originality…Matt Woods is no fluke, no one trick pony. Not even close. He’s a force of
songwriting nature who can match his stories with inspired performances.”
-SavingCountryMusic.com

“[Matt Woods] started singing with more power and more emotion than, get ready for this, more emotion and strength than anyone I remember seeing maybe ever. I was floored…I LOVE THIS SONG.”
-Riki Rachtman (Headbangers Ball, NASCAR Radio, Fork In The Road) **On Deadman’s Blues

“Matt Woods [has been] putting out great self-penned, independent country and roots albums that draw a line in the proverbial sand. Every song just suggests ‘See, this is what country music is.’”
-TwangNation.com

"Every track on Matt Woods’ [Brushy Mountain] disc is pretty much a perfect country song."
-Country Music People (UK)

"Passionate, no-nonsense, hard-rocking country goodness!”
-Americana-UK.com
Treason
Treason
Hardcore is alive and well in 2017…

Hailing from Cincinnati, OH, Treason was formed out of necessity. With hardcore roots going back decades, the band felt a sense of obligation to represent the hardcore community and give back to what has given them such memories and purpose. Formed in 2017, Treason has members of Suffocate Faster, LAW, Culture, One Nation Under and Blood Has Been Shed, giving the band its own uniqueness both in sound and message.

“I remember coming up and buying anything New Age Records put out. Back in the stone age there was no internet or band camps. You bought records based on word of mouth and what the labels were pumping out. It’s an honor for us to be on releasing a record on a label that has given so much to our community and continues to share new bands with everyone” said Rich Thurston.

New Age Records founder Mike Hartsfield said, “I was so excited when Rich approached us as a possible home for Treason. We haven’t had many heavy hardcore bands recently on the label. Sometimes people forget New Age was the foundation for bands like Unbroken & Mean Season. We are thrilled to have Treason as part of the family”.

The debut 12” EP will be released this summer as the band sets out for numerous live shows in support as well as playing at this year’s “This Is Hardcore” fest.
Billy Catfish
Billy Catfish
Billy Catfish is a country-folk singer-songwriter and performance artist. He performs this sort of material solo under various names, most notably Billy Catfish Orchestra. He currently leads songwriter/country rock animals The Fabulous Byurd Brains.

He's been performing as Billy Catfish for more than 20 years, first leading the two-piece punk/blues unit Little Billy Catfish & The Sodapops, then heading up the Billy Catfish 3trio. After a short stint on the fringes of Chicago’s experimental rock scene, he formed psych rock band Lonesome Tumblers. He’s more recently performed with songwriter-folk outfits Painwater and The Pteradactyls, punk stallions Public Venom, noise outfit PINK TEEF, and indie rock group The Chauncers.

Billy Catfish has performed throughout Ohio and Kentucky, up to Detroit and Chicago, down into Nashville and Memphis, over to New York, Jersey and into Philly, and plenty of other spots in-between. He’s released a string of cassettes, records and CDs all the way.

“(Billy’s) music became more personal, deeper and full of honesty. It developed a serrated edge that tore at the very essences of all that ‘real’ surrounding him, varied in every approach to his music … like a lost document from Gram Parsons, Neil Young or Willie Nelson.” - Shawn Abnoxious, CityBeat

“Dude, you fucking rock.” (Nick Oliveri, from Queens of the Stone Age and Kyuss said that while shaking my hand)
John Underwood
John Underwood
John Underwood is a multi-instrumentalist solo artist from Reno, NV with an unusual setup. He's placed eight instruments around him all running into a loop pedal, so he can create a full folk band sound live in front of the audience with banjo, acoustic guitar, accordion, trumpet, trombone, glockenspiel, electric bass, and an acoustic style drum setup with cajon, washboard and some cymbals. His music has spawned out of the ashes of his folk-pirate-gypsy band The Deadly Gallows, and the influences of his current folk-gypsy projects Six Mile Station and Dirty Kid Discount. A lot of people claim to be a one man band, but John will show you in one set how to put together all the pieces for such a thing, and what that full band would sound like.

Black Tractor
Black Tractor
Only the bible belt could spew forth a band as stubborn as Black Tractor. Nobody wants to see a bunch of guy nearing middle age playing original heavy metal in the midwest. Nobody wants to be bludgeoned by high volume masturbatory compositions in a bar that smells of urine. Nobody wants to hear them complain about how they think crabcore is stupid. But Black Tractor pay all this no mind. No mind at all. Their now decade long residence in the Cincinnati heavy metal scene has finally reached a crescendo with the release of their third masterwork "Applaud My Friends-The Comedy Is over : A Potboiler By Black Tractor."

The band's current line up has been in place for 6 years and has proven fruitful. Gone is the simplistic songs of sex and hellfire. Heavy metal cliches to be sure; only to be replaced by art of such a magnitude you probably would not even understand it. A casual onlooker may describe Black Tractor's music as "drunk" or "stupid," but he is a dumbass. The high artistry of Black Tractor escapes him and he should continue listening to Dashboard Confessional while masturbating.

The band has been nominated for several Cincinnati area music awards but never won shit. A travesty beyond compare, the spoils going to bands clearly sub-Tractor. Black Tractor did manage to win a Battle Of The Bands at the famously haunted Bobby Mackey's, but the competition was a really shitty cover band. Vocalist Johnny Potatoes was heard saying, "These guys suck, we better fuckin win," and win they indeed did. One of the judges was the drummer from Blue Oyster Cult and he said Black Tractor was "Great."

But alas-the past is history and Black Tractor is looking sqinty-eyed into the future. At the end of the day the band is a well oiled heavy metal machine. The music holds appeal to older Sabbath type dudes and the younger folks dig it as well. They have not cleared a room since 2003, a fact of which they are very proud.

The band plans to continue not clearing rooms well into the future.
